Welcome to Northwoods
On behalf of the entire staff team, welcome to the Northwoods Project!! We believe that God has uniquely selected you to be a part of this life-changing experience. By God’s grace, this summer will change your life and you’ll never be the same again. We’ve been praying that God would raise up the men He wants to be here, and we’re excited you’re going to be one of them!
We’ll be living in the city of North Bay in northern Ontario, Canada. It is situated on beautiful Lake Nipissing on the edge of the Canadian North Woods. The air is filled with the aroma of fresh pine trees and the water is clean enough to drink straight out of the lakes. We’ve got great housing! We’ll be staying in 6-bedroom, fully-furnished apartments on the campus of Nipissing/Canadore college. There’s a gym on campus along with sports fields and basketball courts. The wilderness is right outside our apartment windows and miles of hiking and mountain bike trails is a five-minute walk away.
Each week, we’ll be learning who God is through the Scriptures and have a chance to put what we learn into practice through learning exercises, work sessions, and outreaches as we reach out to North Bay residents, Canadian college students and Native Canadians. You’ll meet weekly with a staff member for personal discipleship. You’ll grow in your love for God. You’ll tell others about Him. You’ll learn more about yourself. You’ll forge deep friendships with other men and enjoy fellowship the way God intended.
We’ll take three incredible outfitting trips into Canada’s rugged northern forests. We’ll hike, canoe and portage through beautiful old-growth pine forests and crystal clear lakes using a network of ancient Native canoe routes. We’ll spot moose, bear, and hear the call of the loons as we bed down for the night in our tents. We’ll boat into a Native island to share our faith. Our last trip will be a 35 mile, 4-day canoe trip where we’ll be dropped off by floatplane and paddle back.
Our prayer is that you would be available this summer. Available to learn and grow. Available for God to work in your life, and available for God to use you in the lives of others. If you make yourself available, we truly believe you will have the summer of a lifetime.
